Chicago Wedding Photography

If you are planning a wedding, you should spend careful consideration on every aspect, but one aspect that you will want to make sure you did everything right is in regards to your wedding photographer. Every couple wants to be able to reminiscence fondly on their wedding, and the only way they are able to do that is via a wonderful and comprehensive wedding photography album. You will find that you will be incapable of witnessing every single special moment in your wedding because so many special moments are created by your guests. You want a true professional to be present to capture everything that will make you smile with tearful joy later on in life, and when you show future generations. Do not skimp on this area in the budget, because only a professional who comes with plenty of wedding experience will be able to capture everything proficiently. Do not worry though, Chicago is teeming with fantastic photographers of all kinds, but especially professional wedding photographers. Here are some helpful tips to make the path to the right photographer less of a bumpy road.

You should first research the specific style of photography you wish to employ for the wedding. There are many prominent styles, but the most common are documentary and portraiture. Many photographers will blend styles for their own unique brand, or upon customer request. The documentary style is more of a photojournalistic approach where the photographer shoots more dramatic or intense shots from creative angles, the people featured in each shot rarely are looking directly into the camera. The portraiture style is more of an old school, traditional, days of yore approach that features more posed shots in front of backdrops and prearranged locations such as a gazebo or a pier at sunset. Some couples choose to hire multiple photographers as to capture different styles or allow for more angles. It all depends on your budget and your desires.

Next, you will want to start your search with the recommendations of your friends, family, and trusted colleagues, particularly, anyone who has recently been married, or anyone who has been involved in a wedding to some extent. It is also a good idea to consult your venue coordinator for their recommendations, they may even have a list of preferred vendors they strongly suggest you glean your selections from. Another source where you can do some further research and cross reference your candidates is online wedding directories. These websites are incredibly resourceful to users looking for any type of vendor that specializes in weddings, they provide information on pricing, reviews, bridal testimonials, pictures, videos, and more. Now that you have composed a solid list of candidates, call each one up, and ask if they are available on the date of your wedding.

Now that you have your appointments booked, you are ready to start the interview process off. You will want to come prepared with plenty of questions and your vision of the wedding. You will want ask them to take a visit to the venues you have booked for the wedding, and scope out the best spots to shoot the photography within each location. You will also want to cover their back up plan in case of emergency, if you are going through a company this is relatively straightforward, ask for an associate that meets your expectations. You will want to gather the personal contact information of each candidate, particularly the ones you are interested in, because you want to be able to be comfortable with this person, and be communicative with them. The last thing you should cover is the cost of the services, ask for a sample invoice from each candidate. You will want to spend time comparing and contrasting each candidate.

If you are comfortable with a candidate, and feel they will do a proficient job at taking your wedding photos, then write up a binding contractual agreement, and place a deposit. A couple months after your wedding, your diligence will be rewarded with a beautiful wedding photography album!
